Sapphire Reverie | Butterfly Mixed Media Painting

A butterfly rests mid-wing in a garden of gold. Sapphire Reverie is a commissioned reimagining of my original Elysian Wings, and it has its own colors, its own details, and its own story. Everything on the canvas is sculpted by hand with texture paste, so the wings, petals, and leaves rise off the surface. The wings glow in acrylic blues that shift from deep sapphire to bright aqua. Fine gold lines trace each vein like stained glass, and a darker lower wing is set with crystals that sparkle as the light moves. A bouquet of sapphire and crimson blossoms spills beside the butterfly, with gold-edged petals and richly veined leaves. The background and the butterfly are sealed in glossy resin, which gives the whole piece a luminous, glass-like depth. Behind it all is a soft, weathered ivory dusted with gold flecks and tiny sparks of color, as if the butterfly shook a little magic loose on its way through. Sapphire Reverie has found its forever home. Each commission is made one at a time, so if you'd like a piece of your own, I'd love to hear your ideas.
