Meet Tima
A life between two homes, told in color and texture.
Inside the world of Timatimone
The story behind the work
From Fes to New York
I’m Fatima-Ezzahra Garcia, though most people call me Tima. I was born in Fes, in Ain Chekef, and raised in Casablanca. Morocco’s color, pattern and cultural memory remain part of how I see and make art.
I moved to the United States in 2014 with my husband, PJ. With no formal art training, I began teaching myself through experiments with color and material—first with watercolors, then acrylics, family portraits and decorations for children’s rooms.
“The Call,” inspired by Persephone’s journey, became my first major sale. It opened the door to local showcases, online collectors and the practice I continue to build today.
Why I make
A conversation between culture, womanhood and the heart.
My work holds space for identity, love, family, heritage, resilience and transformation. I’m drawn to the unseen struggles and quiet power of women, and to the way a layered surface can give feeling a physical form. I hope each piece invites you to pause, reflect and find something of your own story in it.
“My art is my voice—a conversation between culture, womanhood, and the heart.”
Materials in the studio
- Acrylic and pastel
- Resin and gel
- Impasto and sculptural paste
- Earth and mineral pigments
- Gold and silver leaf
- Glass, fabric and found details
Resin adds glossy depth, gel builds subtle layers, and impasto makes a bold, touchable mark. Alcohol ink can move like a dream across the surface; sculpted details carry the work beyond a flat canvas.
