Inside a commission, start to finish
By Tima Garcia, artist
A commission starts with a conversation, not a catalogue of sizes. I want to understand your story, the room where the artwork will live, the light it gets, and the feeling you hope to live with. Those details give us a meaningful place to begin talking about the piece.
The format and materials are part of that conversation. A commission may be made on canvas with sculptural texture or resin. Price depends on the size, materials, and level of detail, so the right next step is to share what you have in mind and ask about current openings.
Once a commission is agreed, allow approximately six to ten weeks. The work follows the same slow, layered practice as my other pieces, but its starting point is your space and story rather than a gallery wall. The timeline is an estimate; ask me about current availability before planning around a specific date.
A 50% deposit begins the work. The cancellation terms depend on when you cancel: a cancellation within 24 hours receives a full deposit refund; after 24 hours but before work starts, a partial refund may be possible; once work has started or is complete, the deposit is non-refundable. I want those practical details to be clear alongside the creative conversation.
If you are considering a commission, you do not need to arrive with every choice already made. Start by telling me what matters to you and where you imagine the piece. We can begin the conversation there.
